Dive Into Open Water Swimming with Elmbridge Phoenix
Are you ready to take your swimming beyond the pool? Open water swimming is one of the most exciting, challenging, and rewarding ways to experience the sport. Whether in lakes, rivers, or the ocean, it offers a chance to connect with nature while testing your endurance and skill.
Why Try Open Water Swimming?
Adventure & Freedom: No lanes, no walls—just wide open water.
Builds Resilience: Conditions vary with weather, currents, and temperature, making every swim unique.
Boosts Fitness: Longer swims in open water improve stamina and mental strength.
Community Spirit: Swim alongside fellow club members who share the same passion.
Success in Competitions ?
Our swimmers don’t just train in open water—they excel in it! Members of Elmbridge Phoenix have proudly competed in major Regional and National open water events, bringing home medals and representing the club at the highest level.
Training & Season Plan
We kick off our open water training in the spring, giving swimmers time to adapt to outdoor conditions and sharpen their skills. This structured preparation leads up to the first major competition at the end of June, with more events throughout the summer season.
Safety First
Your safety is our top priority. When we head out for open water swims, we ensure:
✅ Bright swim caps for visibility
✅ Tow floats for added safety
✅ Buddy system—no one swims alone
✅ Regular safety briefings from qualified coaches
Who Can Join?
Open water sessions are open to confident swimmers who are comfortable in the pool and looking for a new challenge. Whether you’re training for a triathlon, preparing for an endurance event, or just eager to explore nature through swimming, you’ll be welcome.
Tips for First-Timers
Wear a wetsuit for warmth and buoyancy.
Acclimatize slowly—don’t rush in.
Practice sighting (lifting your head to spot landmarks).
Relax and enjoy the experience!
